Professor Masawe is a crop improvement specialist and a cashew value chain expert with over 20 years’ experience in cashew industry and over 17 years of cashew project management and supervision in sub-Saharan Africa. Prof. Masawe is currently heading the National Cashew Research Programme in Tanzania. From 2006 to 2007 he worked in Ghana (West Africa) as a Technical Advisor to the Cashew Development Project, under the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in Ghana. Before taking AfDB assignment in April 2006, Dr Masawe was a Coordinator of the Regional Cashew Improvement Network for Eastern and Southern Africa which is funded by Common Fund for Commodities based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The regional network covered seven countries which are Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania and Uganda. His extensive experience in cashew value chain earned him world recognition resulting into two years World Bank assignment in Mozambique as cashew specialist (2000-2002).
